- Marie Lazarre- A young 14 year old girl who comes from the reservations. She is very light skinned than most of the people and she doesn't have much Indian blood in her. She describes herself as an ignorant young girl.
- Sister Leopolda- An evil, abusive sister that work in the Convent. She is the antagonist in the story because she is the main conflict for Marie's troubles. Sister will step on Marie's neck, and stabs her hand with a fork. She despises Marie because of her differences in her race and her culture.
- Father- He was mentioned once in the story when Marie describes Sunday Mass where he will bring his children into town expect school during these special days. He sound like a father that don't interact with his children and only bring them outside unless its a special event.

- Saint-Claire
- The following are all the sisters that works for the Sacred Heart Convent. They appear a few times in the short story and in the end they sits around Marie to pray for her because she fell sick. The sisters believes in Sister Leopolda that Marie fainted from poison rather than Marie's argument.
